When Catholic Social Services decided to launch a community-based prayer intention initiative, they decided that they needed a logo design that would have the right appeal for people to get involved. Drawing inspiration from traditional Catholic spirituality, we designed the logo with a thurible as the main visual. A thurible is a hollowed out container, usually ornate in design, which holds incense that is burnt in Catholic liturgy. The smoke from the incense is meant to draw believers into a sensory experience which combines our physical reality with our spiritual reality. As the smoke rises, it reminds us that, so too, do our prayers rise up to heaven. This seemed like a fitting symbol to draw inspiration from for the logo design.
