Msgr William Irwin (Fr. Bill) was the founder of the largest social service agency in Canada, Catholic Social Services (CSS). In honour of his work, CSS established a memorial fund to remember him by. They turned to Holds Worth Design to create a logo and print materials for the memorial fund that would honour his memory and produce an appropriate visual impression.
The logo was designed to encourage associations with memorial monuments which are often elevated on steps and feature torches or flames. The W and I from his initials form the foundation for the main visual in the logo with the I serving as the base of the torch.
